Tobey Maguire will star in Life of Pi for Ang Lee. Adapted from Yann Martel's bestselling novel of the same title, the film re-teams Maguire with Lee after working together on The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil.
Suraj Sharma stars as the title character, a boy who cast adrift in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger after it kills three other animals. Co-starring in Life of Pi are Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussain and Tabu as Pi's mother.
Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire) will play the adult Pi and Maguire is in as the writer who interviews Pi about his life-changing experience.
3D film comes from a script adapted by David Magee with Gil Netter and David Womark producing, reports Variety.
Life of Pi opens into theaters on December 14th, 2012.
"I am delighted that Tobey has joined the film," said Lee. "He is one of my favorite actors that I have had the pleasure of working with and I am so excited that we get to work together for the third time."
Aside from Life of Pi, Maguire is also in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
