J. Michael Straczynski writing an update of "Forbidden Planet"

According to sources, the Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, who also wrote the Clint Eastwood helmed "Changeling," is now writing an update of the classic "Forbidden Planet" for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Joel Silver will producing via his Silver Pictures company.

Warners picked this up earlier this year. When we last heard of this, it was set up at DreamWorks with David Twohy ("The Chronicles of Riddick") set to direct. Before that, James Cameron was supposed to helm it for New Line Cinema.

Fred Wilcock helmed the original film which aired on March 15th, 1956 and told of an expedition sent to check on a scientist colony on a distant planet. Here, the find two people who have survived a monster, a man who has increased his intellect with technology and his daughter. 

This starred Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen.
