Box office records smashed by Marvel's The Avengers.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures' Avengers has posted the largest opening weekend of all time, grossing an estimated $200,329,000. The Joss Whedon-directed actioner from Marvel has already pocketed over $641.8 million worldwide, with $151.5 million of that total coming from overseas sales this weekend! IMAX just didn't have enough seats in theatres to pack in audiences, making for over $15 million of the gross, and tying with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 for the IMAX record.
Naturally, this is also the fastest climb to the $200 million mark in history, and Saturday's gross is the highest of all time as well. In a single weekend alone, Marvel's the Avengers passed the total domestic cume for both Captain America: The First Avenger as well as Thor!

- Friday: $80.5 million.
- Saturday: $69.7 million.
- Sunday: $50.0 milliion.
In second, Sony's Think Like a Man showed a 55% change in its third weekend at play when adding $8 million. Total North American gross is now over $73 million for the romantic comedy/drama.
Third-placed The Hunger Games posted $5.7 million in its seventh weekend at the box office, now bringing its domestic figure to $380.7 million. Worldwide, the Jennifer Lawrence starrer helmed by Gary Ross has accumulated over $617.7 million with $237 million coming from international venues.
In fourth, Warner Bros. Pictures' romance The Lucky One starring Zac Efron edged ahead of Sony's The Pirates! Band of Misfits animation with $5.51 million over the latter's $5.4 million fifth-place take.
The year-to-date revenue is now at $3.57 billion vs. 2011's $3.08 billion, up by 15.96%, while attendance is up by 18.64%.
