Starz' original series' Black Sails
starring Toby Stephens
has already been picked up for a second season before its first season premiere, with production set to resume in November 2013. There are ten episodes coming for the pirate adventure executive produced by Michael Bay
The announcement was made by Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht which comes on the heels of the exclusive fan screening at San Diego Comic-Con
, months before the January 2014 on-air premiere date.
There are eight episodes in the first season which of the show which centers on the tales of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men, and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.”
Black Sails is created by Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine, and also stars Zach McGowan, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Mark Ryan and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
Michael Bay executive produces alongside Brad Fuller and Andrew Form via their Platinum Dunes.
Production on season 2 will take place at Cape Town Studios in Cape Town, South Africa in November.
