Jersey Shore will not be renewed for a seventh season by MTV, which will axe the show at the end of season 6, which starts in October.
Variety reports the the ratings have been on the decline for the last few seasons, leading to the announcement five weeks prior to the final season so it can be marketed as the last in the series. Apparently, they're hoping that viewers who may have turned away will return to say bid farewell to the show.
The show was introduced in December, 2009 and personalities such as Snooki, Pauly D. The Situation and others became the topic of conversation for many lovers, and haters of the offering.
MTV's promoting the final season of Jersey Shore by airing a one hour special called "Gym, Tan, Look Back at 6 p.m., before the 7 p.m. Video Music Awards.
