The American Idol rumor mill shot into overdrive yesterday with judge Steven Tyler exiting the Fox talent show in order to spend more time performing with his band Aerosmith.
Deadline reported that Jennifer Lopez remained in extended contract talks with Fox and producer Nigel Lythgoe over her salary demands. With Tyler exiting and a judge’s slot needing to be filled for Season 12, rumors also swirled about possible replacements for Tyler, or perhaps, Tyler and Lopez.
Recently, Katy Perry said she had no time to make a commitment to the Fox talent show. However, Season Eight runner-up Adam Lambert told The Hollywood Reporter that he would be “honored” to join the judge’s table for Season Twelve.
Despite the contract talks, Lopez hinted that might not be back for a third season of Idol.
“I am thinking that it’s time for me to go and do other things I love to do,” Lopez said on NBC’s Today show.
Meanwhile, fans can debate who should replace Tyler.
