After announcing the project at last summer’s Comic Con, USA president of original programming Jeff Wachtel confirmed that production would start in January on the “Burn Notice” movie prequel starring Bruce Campbell (far left, alongside series star Jeffrey Donovan) as popular series character Sam Axe on his last mission as a Navy Seal on a Columbian military base.
According to “Deadline,” series star Jeffrey Donovan received the directing job after impressing “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix and executive producer Mikkel Bondesen with his directing work on the “Made Men” episode.
“We saw Bruce Campbell as the Bruce Springsteen of Comic Con,” Wachtel said. “We saw the spectacular explosive fan reaction and realized that in Bruce we had not only a great actor but also a pop culture icon.”
No word yet on who will join Campbell on the “Burn Notice” movie prequel.
While current plans call for the one movie prequel, there’s no telling what will happen if the movie is a big hit.
Bruce Campbell fans, cross your fingers, set your TiVO and start campaigning for a series offshoot featuring Sam Axe.
