Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike stayed true to his genre roots and action fan base with his latest movie project. Variety reported that Miike partnered with Toho to adapt As God Says, the popular Japanese comic from writer Muneyuki Kanshiro and artist Akeji Fujimura.
Japanese TV star Sota Fukushi joined the film film, described as mix of cult action favorite Battle Royale and the current box office smash The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; about a teenager who mysteriously joins his classmates in a fight-to-the-death contest facilitated by a mysterious organization.
Miike described the film in more direct terms.
“They live, some heads roll," Miike said in a release. "They run, blood sprays, they cry, they laugh and then they die. In other words, it’s a fun movie.”
The prolific Miike is set to film As God Says this June with a release planned for fall 2014.
