Oliver Stone is back in the film-making business with his first big turn in a while, and it starts off well enough, showing a couple of California drug dealers and their girlfriend (yes, singular girlfriend: they share). The two share something else as well - a potent strain of marijuana that has THC levels that are off the chart.
Unfortunately this interesting tale is left at the starting gate for another drug-dealer, the cartoonish Selma Hayek, who wants to know just how the boys have done it so she can integrate the super product into her own cartel. Naturally things go awry and the idyllic beach lifestyle they are living turns into a nightmare, and we are never quite sure who are the savages of the title.
The problem is that the good story falls apart and the end tries to pick up the pieces but it just isn't quite enough.
