The Wimpy Kid is back. While it is not The Godfather, James Bond, Star Wars or any of several serial classics on the silver screen, it keeps chugging right along to its target market - the only problem is that protagonist Greg is rapidly aging out of said market himself.
If he were a few years older you may not notice. A few years younger and he would be okay for a bit. But he is at that awkward stage where he can shoot up a few inches in a week and his voice changes overnight. For an older viewer, this doesn't matter a whole lot - we don't care about authenticity and can just enjoy.
But for someone trying to identify with him? It makes it a challenge. You don't see many rising eighth graders getting ready to shave and move out. With more books already written, I doubt that we will see the same character playing the role of Greg in the future.
