Peter Jackson continued to keep his many fans up to date via his Facebook page and he posted today that principal photography wrapped on his two-part The Hobbit movies, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
“We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit!” Jackson posted. “Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Com! Cheers, Peter J.”
Jackson and his crew shot The Hobbit at 48 frames per second instead of the standard 24 frames per second and recently screened footage at the trade conference Cinemacon.
The Hobbit, starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, many of the returning cast members from the Lord of the Rings movies, and Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the dragon Smaug and the Necromancer, will debut in theaters Dec. 14 with its second installment arriving December 2013.
