Ericson Core to direct Youngstown Boys true story of biggest bank heist in U.S. history
Ericson Core (Invincible) is set to helm the indie action crime movie about the heist which took place in Laguna Beach, California in 1972, reports Variety.
Identity Films' Anthony Mastromauro produces and Core is apparently meeting with actors at this point. Ken Hixon (City by the Sea and Welcome to the Rileys) wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay.
Youngstown Boys tells of a gang of close-knit thieves from Youngstown, Ohio, who are set by Teamsters to nab $30 million in illegal campaign contributions as well as blackmail money from President Nixon.
However, the thieves hit the wrong bank - United California Bank instead of Nixon's Bank of America branch in San Clemente. Although they made off with around $12 million, seven out of the eight conspirators were quickly apprehended but the getaway driver...well...got away, at least until his arrest in 1980.
