Viggo Mortensen will not be the male lead in Snow White and the Huntsman. Dropping out leaves the door open for Mortensen to be the villain in Superman: Man of Steel which is scheduled to shoot at the same time as Huntsman.
Mortensen ended months of negotiations with Universal for the lead in the Joe Roth produced film which is being directed by Rupert Sanders and has confirmed stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron on board.
Filming on Snow White and the Huntsman was scheduled to start sometime this fall for a December 21, 2012 release.
Warner Bros. would not comment, however Superman: Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is reportedly interested in Mortensen for the Henry Cavill starrer.
Snyder's Sucker Punch opens in theatres today and is plagued by bad reviews from Critics, holding a terrible 20% rotten rating on RottenTomatoes.com. This comes after Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole's lackluster performance at the domestic box office, grossing $55 million from a $80 million budget. The film did however perform well overseas with $84.3 million earned.
