The Grey, Man on a Ledge, One for the Money in this week's upcoming movies.
Liam Neeson starrer The Grey will look for a howling good weekend at the box office via Open Road Films. The Joe Carnahan film opens in 2,700-3,000 venues with a cast including Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale and Nonso Anonzie. Carnahan co-wrote the script alongside Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, based on Jeffers' short story called "Ghost Walker." This looks to be a solid, adrenalin-packed adventure thriller, produced by Mickey Liddell, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Carnahan.
Summit Entertainment's Man on a Ledge action thriller opens nationwide, and includes a strong cast frontlined by Sam Worthington, as well as Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Edward Burns and William Sadler. Asger Leth, known for the documentary Ghosts of Cité Soleil, helms from the writing by Pablo F. Fenjves (TV movie Trophy Wife).
Lionsgate's Katherine Heigl-starrer One for the Money finds over 2,700 theaters. Julie Anne Robinson (The Last Song) directs from the writing by Stacy Sherman, Liz Brixius and Karen Ray, based on the novel by Janet Evanovich.
Indie-wise, Roadside Attractions' Albert Nobbs starring Glenn Close, Mia Wasikowska and Aaron Johnson, expands after a debut on December 21st in limited venues. Rodrigo Santoro (Mother and Child, Passengers) directs from the script by Close, along with Man Booker prize-winning novelist John Banville and Gabriella Prekop, adapted from a short story by Irish author George Moore.
Critically-acclaimed We Need to Talk About Kevin, starring Tilda Swinton, John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller, makes its expansion after opening in New York on Jan. 13th, and Los Angeles last weekend.
IFC's Declaration of War drama has pulled in $5.8 million overseas, and opens in limited venues this weekend, under the direction of star Valérie Donzelli, who scripts and stars with Jérémie Elkaïm. Also in the cast are César Desseix, Gabriel Elkaïm, Brigitte Sy and Elina Lowensohn.
