Tron: Legacy turned out to be a solid hit for director Joseph Kosinski with its trademark light cycles from Tron as well as a slick all-terrain vehicle driven by the film's pretty heroine (Olivia Wilde) but his latest sci-fi adventure Horizons landed at Universal Pictures after Disney decided to pass on the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures picked up the film beating out rival studios Fox and Paramount.
Tom Cruise agreed to star in the movie, based on a script by William Monahan and Karl Gadjusek about a soldier on a ravaged planet who meets a mysterious traveler.
Kosinski has set up the movie with Radical Pictures execs Barry Levine and Jesse Berger before taking the project to Disney.
Kosinski planned to begin shooting the film in October. Kosinski also remained committed to a remake of Disney's The Black Hole.
Tron: Legacy recently came on out on Blu-Ray and DVD.
