Stephen Root has boarded the cast of Fox's To My Future Assistant single-camera comedy. He joins Brittany Snow and Troy Gentile in the Sherry Bilsing-Graham & Ellen Kreamer-written show helmed by Peyton Reed, reports Deadline.
Future Assistant follows the assistants at a large law firm in New York who stick together to make it through the daily dealings with their overbearing bosses. Root is in as Snow's boss called Frank, an attorney who's intense, but not as monstrous as he seems.
Root, an experienced TV and film actor, has credits going back to his debut on Crocodile Dundee II, then adding Black Rain, Golden Years, Robocop 3, Dave L.A.. Law, Ladies Man, The West Wing, Leatherheads, J. Edgar, Justified, The Company You Keep and Boardwalk Empire, among many others. He also voices Mildew in Dragons: Riders of Berk.
Of all of those, his part as the radio announcer in The Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? seems to stay in my mind the most. He's in post-production phase on Jacob Vaughan's Milo horror comedy, with Patrick Warburton, Peter Stormare, Gillian Jacobs, Nick Jaine, Ken Marino, Jonathan Daniel Brown and Mary Kay Place.
