Sony's romantic drama starring Channing Tatum got off to a strong start on Friday, generating an estimated $15 million from 2,958 theaters. The Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams starrer helmed by Michael Sucsy, also includes Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, Wendy Crewson and Jessica Lange.
Universal's Safe House thriller starring Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard and Vera Farmiga, also posted solid Friday figures with $13.8 million grossed from 3,119 theaters.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace returned to theaters in 3D, posting $8.65 million from 2,665 locations.
Keeping pretty much on par with Journey to the Center of the Earth's opening day, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island managed $6,57 million from 2,655, as opposed to the first Journey's $6.7 million. Bead Peyton's adventure family flick stars Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Kristin Davis and Luis Guzman.
Last weekend's top spot holders Chronicle and The Woman in Black grossed around $3.5 and $3.4 million respectively, reports BoxOfficeMojo.com.
