Expendables II Fires Up Friday Box Office

Newcomers Premium Rush, Hit and Run and The Apparition failed to stay off Lionsgate's Expendables sequel as the film added another $3.9 million on Friday, starting its sophomore run at the box office. The Sylvester Stallone starrer helmed by Simon West should post $10-$11 million come Sunday weekend estimates.

Universal Pictures' The Bourne Legacy finished in second place with $2.7 million pulled in in its third Friday at play. The Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz starrer heads towards a $8-9 million weekend total.

Focus Features' ParaNorman animation, featuring the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Casey Affleck generated $2.3 million and found competition from an unlikely film. Surprisingly-enough, Dinesh D'Souza and John Sullivan's 2016: Obama's America expanded to 1,071 theaters, bringing in a very solid $2.2 million from its Friday run, and heads to $6.5-$6.7 million by weekend's end.

2016: Obama's America asks where we'll be if Obama wins his second term as President of the United States.

Warner Bros. Pictures' comedy The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, also posted $2.2 million, aiming for a weekend cume of $6.5 million.

Sixth and seventh place are left fought for by The Dark Knight Rises and Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green with $2 million-apiece, however, the former should top the latter.

Sony Pictures' Premium Rush action thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon grossed around $2 million Friday, outperforming other openers Hit and Run ($1.2 million) and The Apparition (around $1.1 million).
