Any questions whether director Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES qualified as 2012’s most anticipated movie was put to rest when Deadline confirmed reports by digital ticketing service Fandango that midnight shows for the final film in Nolan’s Batman Trilogy at key 70mm IMAX venues in New York and Los Angeles sold out.
In addition to the sold-out midnight shows, fans last month downloaded the trailer THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours of release (breaking the previous record held by The Avengers) proving that Batman fanatics can’t get enough of their beloved movie franchise.
Christian Bale joined returning cast members Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox) and Michael Caine (Alfred) on The Dark Knight Rises. Newcomers included Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle), Tom Hardy (Bane), Marion Cotillard (Miranda Tate) with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Matthew Modine as Gotham City police officers.
The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20, 2012 but its prologue recently debuted before 70mm IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
Fans, there are a lot of fantasy blockbusters heading our way in 2012 but clearly The Dark Knight Rises is the film at the top of our excitement list.
