Four join The Citizen helmed by Sam Kadi, based on a true story.
Cary Elwes, Agnes Bruckner, Rizwan Manji and Khaled Nabaway will star in the indie drama. Sam Kadi directs from the script by Jazmen Darnell Brown and Samir Younis, from the story by Kadi, reports Variety.
In The Citizen, Nabaway plays a Lebanese immigrant who wins a green card through the U.S. lottery system. The film follows his life as he arrives in New York to claim his documents on September 10th, 2001, through his 10-year journey to obtaining citizenship in a post-911 America. This includes his detainment by homeland security and his deportation trial.
Manji is in as a Southeast Asian shop owner with U.S. citizenship who helps the Lebanese immigrant.
Chris Wyatt and Noel Vega produce alongside Kadi and production has started in Michigan.
