Taken 2 fell behind Sinister on Friday, but could hold on to weekend top box office
Summit Entertainment's Sinister horror starring Ethan Hawke, brought the Halloween scares to theaters early this year, posting a solid $7.5 million debut from 2,527 theaters. Helmed by The Exorcism of Emily Rose's Scott Derrickson who scripts alongside C. Robert Cargill, also includes Vincent D'Onofrio, James Ransone, Fred Dalton Thompson, Clare Foley and Juliet Rylance.
In third, Warner Bros. Picures' Argo, helmed and starring Ben Affleck, earned $5.93 million from 3,232 theaters and will hold that position could weekend estimates. The R-rated pic with a production budget of $44.5 million, has a storng cast on board including Bryan Cranston, Kyle Chandler, John Goodman, Clea DuVall, Michael Parks, Alan Arkin, Tate Donovan, Adrienne Barbeau, Chris Messina, Titus Welliver, Richard Kind and Taylor Schilling.
Hotel Transylvania headed by Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez and Kevin James made $4.2 million, and heads towards the $100 million mark with $89 million posted domestically at this point.
Here Comes the Boom from Sony, also with Kevin James and Henry Winkler on board as well as , finished in fifth place on Friday, grossing $3.62 million.
Other comedic opener CBS Films' Seven Psychopaths should make the top ten list with $1.4 million grossed from 1,480 theaters. Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Abbie Cornish and Olga Kurylenko star in the Martin McDonagh film.
