Fans of the Cinemax action spy series STRIKE BACK were left wondering who would replace Amanda Mealing’s character Col. Eleanore Grant after her character’s demise in the season one finale. Deadline confirmed yesterday that fan boy favorite Rhona Mitra continued talks and planned to join co-stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester on the show’s second season.
Mitra looked likely to sign on as Capt. Rachel Dalton, head of Section 20, the secret branch of MI-6 that employs Stapleton and Winchester’s pair of British intelligence agents.
Mitra earned her action chops multiple times with roles in Doomsday, Skinwalkers, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans as well as her work as the live action model for Tomb Raider video game heroine Lara Croft.
Recently, Stapleton made great use of all the attention he gained via Strike Back by landing a role on the Warner Bros. period crime drama Gangster Squad.
Looks like Rhona Mitra’s decision to join Strike Back is a win-win deal for everyone. Fans will enjoy the addition of one of their favorite female action stars and Mitra will surely enjoy a career boost from joining a popular and well-reviewed show.
