The Giver starring Jeff Bridges may land Salt helmer Phillip Noyce

the giver novel imageLois Lowry's 1993 "The Giver" children's book may have found its director in Catch a Fire's Phillip Noyce, who's currently in early talks to helm the bigscreen adaptation for Weinstein Co and Walden Media.

Jeff Bridges will star and also produces alongside Nikki Silver. Weinstein Co had no official comment on Noyce's involvement, reports Variety.

The Giver is set in a society which is at first shown as a utopian society, then gradually becomes dystopian. By converting to "Sameness," the society has eliminated pain and strife, which has also eradicated emotional depth. People living in the community are content because they don't know they're capable of a better life, but the knowledge of what they are missing, could create chaos. Read more at Wikipedia.

Vadim Perelman wrote the most recent draft, and was going to direct this back in 2006 when Walden and 20th Century Fox were aiming to get the ball rolling on the project.
