Ridley Scott continued to finalize his cast for Cormac McCarthy's THE COUNSELOR, the veteran author's first feature spec script. Michael Fassbender, the star of Scott's upcoming sci-fi thriller Prometheus already joined the movie in its lead role, an upstanding lawyer who gets sucked into the drug trade. Scott also looked to cast Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem with both stars looking to join the movie in undisclosed roles.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Penelope Cruz might also join the cast as the film's female lead; reuniting her on-screen with husband Bardem for the first time since the Woody Allen comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Showbiz trades also reported on the possibility of Angelina Jolie landing the lead female role but her start date on Disney’s Maleficent might prove to be a problem.
Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, who produced McCarthy's The Road, signed on to produce The Colleague. McCarthy reportedly handed his agents the No Country For Old Men-like script just six months ago.
Past movies made from McCarthy books include All The Pretty Horses, starring Cruz, The Road and No Country For Old Men but The Colleague was the first spec script from the veteran author.
Fans, do you think there’s a movie entering development with a cast as star-studded as The Colleague? Are you hopeful for a movie every bit as good as No Country For Old Men? Who are you hoping joins the film, Cruz or Jolie?
