Fans excited to see director Tommy Wirkola’s (Dead Snow) fairy tale adventure HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS received disappointing news when Deadline confirmed that Paramount pushed back its co-production with MGM from its original March 2012 release date to January 2013.
Jeremy Renner, currently on-screen with Tom Cruise in the worldwide hit Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; joined the film as Hansel. British actress Gemma Arterton, of Tamara Drewe, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans, joined the film to play Gretel, who teams up with her brother years after their famous, fairy tale incident at the gingerbread house to work as bounty hunters capturing and eliminating wicked witches.
Paramount explained the delay as a business decision to better take advantage of Renner’s growing international profile with lead roles in upcoming blockbusters The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.
Wirkola co-wrote the script with Dante Harper with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay producing via Gary Sanchez Productions.
Are there any Dead Snow fans out there? What do you think of Arterton and Renner teaming up as fairy tale bounty hunters? Looks like you’ll have plenty of time to build up excitement waiting for the film's Jan. 2013 release.
