Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay wowed film festival audiences from Cannes to Toronto with WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, her first movie since the 2002 drama Morvern Callar starring Samantha Morton.
Reps for New York-based specialty distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that after critics praised Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly as parents of a troubled teen (Ezra Miller) who murders several classmates, a teacher and a worker at his high school, they decided to move up the release of the film to Jan. 13 in New York and Jan. 20 in Los Angeles.
We Need to Talk About Kevin, which recently played to packed cinemas during a one-week, Oscar-qualifying run, earned a Golden Globes Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama nomination for Swinton.
Ramsay adapted Lionel Shriver's bestselling novel for just her third feature after Morvern Callar and Ratcatcher.
Earlier,Oscilloscope Head Adam Yauch emphasized the feelings of suspense he experienced during his first viewing that led him to acquire the film.
"I was on the edge of my seat throughout and it was clear I was in the capable hands of a master filmmaker who I'm now proud to see join all our other great filmmakers as a member of the O-Scope family," Yauch said.
