Fans made the R-rated workplace-from-Hell comedy Horrible Bosses an unexpected hit and producer Brett Ratner, who has been involved with the project since he and his partners at Rat Entertainment first sold Horrible Bosses to New Line in 2005, started promoting the idea of HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 soon after its strong debut weekend.
Ratner’s predictions became true when The Hollywood Reporter confirmed reposts that New Line signed Horrible Bosses scribes John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein to pen a sequel with stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis expected to reprise their roles as buddies who team up to off their bosses.
Daly and Golstein also co-wrote the upcoming Steve Carell/Jim Carrey comedy Burt Wonderstone and the sequel to the Sony Animation hit Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
Ratner teased the idea of sequels tossing out possible titles like Horrible Wives and Horrible Children.
"From the beginning, I knew it (Horrible Bosses) was a great concept," Ratner said in an earlier interview. "I was even toying with the idea of directing it."
New Line began talks with Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon to return and helm the sequel; so Ratner looked to be incorrect on that one small detail.
