Sony's Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill starrer Moneyball takes Friday box office for second week in a row.
Moneyball grossed $3.9 million on Friday as it did last weekend, prior to falling to second place under Disney's Lion King in 3D which topped the charts for a second week in a row. Chances are the pic may hold on this weekend and secure a sophomore weekend box office victory.
Pic has accumulated $29.819 million thus far domestically from a $50 million budget.
Warner Bros. Pictures family drama Dolphin Tale, starring Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman and Harry Connick Jr., grossed a second-placed $3.5 million in its second Friday. Charles Martin Smith film has accumulated around $26.7 million.
Disney's ever-popular Lion King finished in third with $3.3 million ahead of surprisingly strong debuter in Sony's Courageous directed by and starring Alex Kendrick along with Ken Bevel and Kevin Downes. Courageous is already impressing with a mere $2 million budget; the film could see north of $10 million come Sunday weekend box office estimated figures with strong Christian interest and reviews.
Two wide openers failed to make much of an impression money-wise with Summit Entertainment's Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen starrer 50/50 finishing fifth with $2.86 million ahead of underperforming Universal Pictures' thriller Dream House, frontlined by Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz, which made a paltry $2.6 million.
Fox's comedy What's Your Number? turned in even worse figures with $2.1 million brought in on Friday, but pic may improve during the week.
