Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill starrer Moneyball leads Friday box office with $6.8 million
Sony's baseball drama helmed by Bennett Miller should land somewhere between $15-17 million to top the box office weekend on its debut.
Pic is scripted by Aaron Sorkin, Steve Zaillian, from the story by Stan Chervin, based on the book "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game" by Michael Lewis. Also starring are Robin Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pratt, Kathryn Morris, Glenn Morshower and Tammy Blanchard.
Disney's The Lion King reincarnated in 3D, kept on well on its second reissue-run Friday with $6.05 million grossed. 3D version of the pic has made over $45.5 million, bringing the total domestic cume of Lion King to over $374.1 million.
In third, Warner Bros. Pictures' Dolphin Tale starring Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman and Harry Connick Jr. opened in third with $5.1 million pulled in from 3,507 theaters.
Both action pic newcomers round off the last two spots of the top five with Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins starrer Abduction grossing around $3.8 million ahead of Gary McKendry's Killer Elite from Open Road Films in fifth with $3.5 million earned. Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro star.
