Plans for Matt Damon to soon make his directing debut on a new Warner Bros. drama that he co-wrote with John Krasinski came to an abrupt end with Damon exiting the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damon planned to direct the drama that he co-wrote with Krasinski and Dave Eggers but he walked away from the planned spring production start due to scheduling issues. Damon was also to produce the film via Pearl Street, the production shingle he shares with Ben Affleck.
Damon continued work on Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, described as another socio-political, sci-fi drama in the vein of his worldwide hit District 9, this time set on another planet in the far future. Damon joined Jodie Foster and District 9 star Sharlto Copley in lead roles for the upcoming sci-fi drama.
Damon was last seen in Steven Soderbergh's virus thriller Contagion along with Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard.
The 41-year-old actor is currently opposite Scarlett Johansson in director Cameron Crowe’s family drama We Bought a Zoo.
Fans, are you disappointed about Damon walking away from his first feature-film directing gig?
