Director John Carney made musical stars out of his romantic leads Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova in his 2006 art-house smash Once and he looked to put the spotlight on the singing talents of the bombshell actress Scarlett Johansson in his upcoming musical CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE?
Judd Apatow signed on to produce the musical romance with Johansson playing a young singer-songwriter trying to jump-start her career in Manhattan and falling for a down-on-his-luck A&R man.
After circling the A&R character for months, Variety reported today that Mark Ruffalo officially joined Can a Song Save Your Life? in the co-starring role.
Earlier, Carney praised his pretty co-star as right for the role.
"I went out to Los Angeles to meet Scarlett a couple of months ago,” Carney told the Sunday Business Post. "She was everything you could imagine, very hot, elegant and she's really smart."
Carney also confirmed that Johansson, who recently released an album with Pete Yorn, would sing a couple of songs in the movie.
Carney recently wrapped production on the supernatural drama The Rafters and began prep work on his biggest directing gig to date, an adaptation of the Carolyn Parkhust novel Dogs of Babel starring Steve Carell as a college professor who discovers his wife dead at their home and teaches their dog to speak in order to learn what happened.
Up next for Johansson and Ruffalo are co-starring roles in the Marvel superhero epic The Avengers.
