Andy Muschietti who directed the Mama horror starring Jessica Chastain, is in talks to helm Bird Box for Universal Pictures who picked up film rights to Josh Malerman's (The High Strung rock group) manuscript, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Scott Stuber, Mama co-writer Barbara Muschietti and Chris Morgan are producing the film which, according to sources, tells of “a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly post-apocalyptic setting.”
They're looking for writers at this point for adaptation work.
Mama, also from Universal, was executive-produced by Guillermo del Toro, and includes Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The film has been a success after opening in top spot on its January 18th, 2013 debut, and has notched up over $70.3 million domestically, and $27.4 million overseas, from a low $15 million budget.
