Strong premiere night numbers of 1.1 million viewers during its first telecast and 2.2 million viewers after its second airing led HBO to quickly renew the horse racing drama LUCK for a second season.
Michael Mann directed and David Milch created the HBO horse racing drama Luck starring Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte and John Ortiz.
According to Variety, Luck began building awareness after HBO aired a sneak preview of the series after the recent season finale of Boardwalk Empire and made the second episode available of the digital streaming platform HBO Go during the season one premiere.
While Variety pointed out how Luck drew less viewers that previous HBO premieres for Boardwalk Empire (4.8 million) and Game of Thrones (2.2 million), HBO president Michael Lombardo praised the debut figures for Luck.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the critical response to this beautiful piece of work and we are very excited about where David and Michael plan to take these incredible characters,” Lombardo told Variety.
Milch and Mann planed to start filming the second season in the next couple of weeks with the 10-episode second season scheduled to air January 2013.
