Fox remained committed to its reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise FANTASTIC FOUR and looked to hire Chronicle director Josh Trank to direct.
Variety reported that Trank impressed his Fox bosses with his upcoming superhero thriller Chronicle, a story he co-wrote with Max Landis about a group of teenage friends who unexpectedly gain super powers and lose control of their lives in the process. Fox continued to heavily promote Chronicle prior to its opening February 3.
Meanwhile, Michael Green continued to work on the script for the new Fantastic Four.
Before Chronicle, Trank was the editor and co-producer of Robert Siegel’s dark comedy Big Fan with Patton Oswalt. Trank also wrote and directed episodes of the Spike TV miniseries The Kill Point.
Variety also pointed out that Fox remains in control of the Fantastic Four franchise as long as it continued to make movies; thus explaining their need to reboot and retain ownership of the successful franchise. Fox signed the same agreement with Marvel titles X-Men, Daredevil and Silver Surfer with Marvel involved with each film as a producer.
Fans, are you excited to see co-writer/director Josh Trank's fantasy thriller Chronicle?
