Jason Reitman made time in his busy directing schedule to come aboard the Steve Carell comedy Burt Wonderstone and rewrite the script about a traditional Las Vegas magician (Carell) who faces competition from a young and non-traditional rival.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein recently completed a rewrite of Chad Kultgen's spec script and Don Scardino, who also directed acclaimed shows Rescue Me, Hope & Faith and The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, replaced Charles McDougall as the project's director.
Before accepting the job of re-writing Burt Wonderstone, Reitman finished work on his upcoming film Young Adult, starring Charlize Theron and started casting his adaptation of the Joyce Maynard novel Labor Day.
Up next for Carell is writer/director Lorene Scafaria's Seeking A Friend For the End of the World, about a man (Carell) who travels across the country to spend the Earth's final days with a school-age girlfriend from his past before an asteroid hits.
Keira Knightley signed on to play a friend who tags along on Carell's character's trip and complicates things.
Carell will also be seen in the summer comedy Crazy, Stupid Love opposite Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore.
