Box office gets Immortal, but Puss in Boots has claws and Jack and Jill bores
Relativity Media's Tarsem Singh-directed Immortals epic adventure looks on track to turn in around $27 million, reports Variety. This comes after the film made $1.4 million on Thursday night, lining it up for a Friday opening of somewhere around $12.5 million.
Apparently Adam Sandler starrer Jack and Jill is destined for a second-place weekend pull of around $20 million, after what could be a $8 million Friday. That alone speaks of how bad the box office is this Veterans Day weekend is.
Despite those estimates, I'm going for a Friday pull of $10.5 million from Immortals, turning in a $19-$22 million box office weekend, and $6.5 million for Jack and Jill, with a $15 million max weekend gross.
However, that said, as much as others are having the above first and second, Puss in Boots is in its third weekend at play, after two successive weekends in top spot. Last weekend the film earned over $33 million, showing a mere 3% or so change in its sophomore weekend. This weekend, with a wide audience behind it, the animated Puss in Boots should contend for top position.
So, here's what the top 3 spots SHOULD look like come Sunday weekend box office estimates:
1. Puss in Boots: $22 million.
2. Immortals: $19 million.
3. Jack and Jill: $15 million.
Let's see how it turns out tomorrow.
