Actress Scarlett Johansson signed on to play a young singer-songwriter trying to jump-start her career in Manhattan and falling for a down-on-his-luck A&R man played by Mark Ruffalo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld continued talks to join the film as the daughter to Ruffalo’s character.
Judd Apatow signed on to produce the movie and Carney confirmed that Johansson, who recently released an album with Pete Yorn, would sing a couple of songs in the movie.
Carney recently wrapped production on the supernatural drama The Rafters and began prep work on his biggest directing gig to date, an adaptation of the Carolyn Parkhust novel Dogs of Babel starring Steve Carell as a college professor who discovers his wife dead at their home and teaches their dog to speak in order to learn what happened.
Steinfeld is currently filming director Carlo Carlei’s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and then starts work on Rosaline and the adaptation of the popular teen sci-fi book Ender’s Game.
