Gerard Butler maintained his busy work pace joining Lakeshore Entertainment’s diamond-heist drama BRILLIANT for director Robert Luketic. According to a report in today’s Variety, Butler last worked with Luketic on the romantic-comedy The Ugly Truth co-starring Katherine Heigl.
Butler replaced Eric Bana as a thief who partners with a more experienced female criminal to pull off a diamond heist. Earlier, Butler joined the action movies Thunder Run and Hunter Killer.
Veteran producer Gillian Gorfil made her screenwriting debut with Brilliant.
Butler recently wrapped director Curtis Hanson’s surf drama Of Men and Mavericks, playing surfer Rick “Frosty” Hesson, the mentor to teen surfer Jay Moriarty (Jonny Weston). Butler was seen in director Marc Forster’s Machine Gun Preacher and the Shakespeare drama Coriolanus.
Up next for Butler are multiple releases including director Gabriele Muccino’s soccer-comedy; Playing the Field with Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones; as well the multi-story comedy Movie 43.
