Celebrity actress and United Nations goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie made her feature-film, directing debut last fall with IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY, the story of a Serbian man and Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of the 1992-'95 Bosnian war. Jolie filmed on-location in the Bosnia and Herzegovina region for authenticity. Jolie also shot the drama in English as well as the native tongue Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian without making a clear decision how to release the movie.
Deadline reported today that Jolie’s distributor FilmDistrict confirmed plans to release In The Land Of Blood And Honey in the Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language per Jolie’s wishes.
Jolie faced protests during the shoot from Muslim women who were repeatedly raped by Serb soldiers and who took issue with the plot of the movie. Still, Jolie appeared to be on good terms with the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina when she returned last summer to accept the "Heart of Sarajevo" award in recognition for her humanitarian efforts and "active engagement in the complexities of the real world."
Film District releases In the Land of Blood and Honey Dec. 23 in the U.S.
