Edward R. Pressman, Relativity Media and Dimension Films have recruited Before the Fall helmer F. Javier Gutierrez for directing duties on the The Crow reboot, reports Variety.
The original 1994 cult classic directed by talented Alex Proyas (I, Robot, Dark City and the upcoming Paradise Lost) starred Brandon Lee, and is based on the comic book series and comic strip by James O'Barr.
The new adaptation will reboot the Eric Draven character who comes back from the grave to avenge the death of his beloved wife and rest his tormented soul.
Relativty plans to announce the cast as well as the start of production and release date within the next few weeks. Bradley Cooper was attached to star, but flew the nest.
Ryan Kavanaugh of Relativity produces alongside Pressman and Jeff Most. The distributor's action thriller Haywire starring MMA superstar Gina Carano, opened in fifth place this past weekend. Upcoming releases include the wonderful-looking Mirror Mirror which debuts on March 16th, with Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, Mare Winningham, Sean Bean and Michael Lerner starring. There's also the Navy SEAL action pic Act of Valor which unspools on February 24th.
