Beverly Hills Cop will return with Eddie Murphy starring, but this time in a TV series from Murphy and Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield. Deadline reports that the project is envisioned as a sequel to the hit film franchise which followed Axel Foley, a comical Detroit detective dealing with a very different culture of Beverly Hills. Martin Brest directed the first movie which also starred Judge Reinhold, John Ashton and Lisa Eilbacher.
Apparently the series follows Foley's son who moves to Beverly Hills to escape the shadow if his legendary father where Murphy will have an "occasional" recurring guest appearance.
I don't know how that will sell since viewers will be watching to catch Murphy in action, and as the lead, not his son - a character never exposed to any of the film franchise before. Stinker? Could very well be with this backbone.
