Need for Speed game to film may drive in Dominic Cooper

Dominic Cooper is in negotiations to co-star opposite Aaron Paul DreamWorks' Need for Speed, reports Variety. The project teams Act of Valor director Scott Waugh with scribe George Gatins, who wrote the story alongside John Gatins (Real Steel, Flight).

The film will be faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise from Electronic Arts, but not based on any individual title.

Need for Speed tells of an underground racecar driver played by Paul who owns a garage that modifies expenses cars, to make them faster for racing. After he's framed and sent to prison when his best pal is murdered during a race, he's bent on revenge when he's released from the slammer.

Cooper's set to play the other leading role - ex-NASCAR driver Dino, a man who uses his strong connections to create a business which rebuilds and modifies supercars. Also in the cast is Fright Night's Imogen Poots who plays an exotic car dealer who deals with Cooper and Paul's characters.

The latest installment in the game franchise Need for Speed: Most Wanted made its debut on October 30th, 2012.

Patrick O'Brien from Electronic Arts produces alongside John Gatins and Mark Sourian and this one's hitting theaters on February 7th, 2014.

This has the right director and scribe on board. With DreamWorks, a Need for Speed movie should also bring in speedy box office returns.
