Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up worldwide rights to the apocalyptic teen romantic comedy, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Detention is a time-traveling, body-swapping flick which also stars Shanley Caswell and tells of a group of students who have to deal with a slasher killer while trying to finish their last year of high school.

Joseph Kahn co-wrote the script alongside Mark Palermo for the film produced by MaryAnn Tanedo and Richard Weager. Robert Abramoff, Hutcherson, David Kang, Clayton Reaser and Vernon Reaser served as executive producers.

The film won the Youth Jury prize for best FutureWave Feature Film at the Seattle International Film Festival.
