Fans excited for 72-year-old director Ridley Scott to confirm his female lead on the upcoming Alien prequels made news out of Charlize Theron’s decision to turn down the role of J. Edgar Hoover’s secretary Helen Gandy in Clint Eatwood’s J. Edgar.
According to NYMAG, news of Theron politely declining Eastwood’s movie coupled with word that Fox wanted Theron in the lead role made fans hopeful that Theron would join the Alien prequels as the main character Elizabeth Shaw.
Recently, Swiss artist HR Giger, creator of the alien monster in his classic 1979 sci-fi thriller, confirmed that he would return to work with Scott on the two-part prequel to Alien shot in 3D.
However, Scott continued to lean towards Noomi Rapace, star of the Swedish The Girl With The Dragoon Tattoo trilogy of films. Other actresses mentioned for the role included Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde.
Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof is finishing a re-write of the first prequel's script and Scott continues early pre-production prep on the films.
Theron remains attached to Mad Max: Fury Road opposite Tom Hardy.
Theron is also in talks to play the evil queen in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Fans, do you have a preference for the lead role for the Alien prequels, Thron or Noomi Rapace? Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like both actresses are an option.
