Fast Five, Prom, Hoodwinked Too! and Dylan Dog debut at box office.
Universal Pictures' eagerly anticipated Fast Five action flick gears up for a hefty box office take, holding strong critic reviews and a massive fan base ready for their next adrenalin rush. The Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges starrer has a 80% positive rating on RottenTomatoes.com so far. Fast and Furious Domestic Box Office Track Record:
- The Fast and the Furious opened June 24th, 2001 in 2,628 theaters, grossing $40 million before ending off with over $144.5 million.
- 2 Fast 2 Furious opened June 8th, 2003, grossing $50.4 million on its debut weekend before bringing in over $127 million.
- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift made the least cash, thanks to losing its 2 main stars. Pic opened with $23.9 million on June 18th, 2006 and finished with a respectable $62.4 million. That's when filmmakers realized the franchise was still looking good and bought back Vin Diesel and Paul Walker for Fast & Furious which debuted April 2rd, 2009, grossing a huge $70.95 million on weekend number one before ending off with over $155 million.
Next, from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Prom debuts in 2,730 locations, aiming for the family-friendly types and not enjoying an abundance of positive ratings. This one's been slaughtered by critics so far and features the voice talents of Hayden Panettiere, Glenn Close, Joan Cusack, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, David Alan Grier, Andy Dick, Brad Garrett, Martin Short, Patrick Warburton, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong.
In 862 theaters, Freestyle Releasing's Dylan Dog: Dead of Night horror comedy, stars Superman Returns Brandon Routh as well as Sam Huntington, Peter Stormare, Taye Diggs, Anita Briem, Brian Steele, Kurt Angle and Courtney J. Clark.
Limited weekend box office openers include 13 Assassins, Sympathy for Delicious, Exporting Raymond and We Go Way Back among others.
