The Killing has been offed by AMC
This comes after the Fox Television Studios' series ratings dropped in season two, leaving the Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman starrer in dire straits. Variety reports that Fox hasn't said the series is dead, but stated they will will "proceed to try to find another home for the show."
The Killing made its premiere last April with 2.7 million viewers, and failed to boost numbers, showing a decline in viewers. Second season saw 1.8 million viewers prior to ending off wityh 1.4 million, just over half of the original opening number.
AMC's statement said: "After much deliberation, we've come to the difficult decision not to renew 'The Killing' for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast."
The Killing revolves around the murder in Seattle of a teenage girl, Rosie Larsen, and the gripping police investigation it sparks. The facts of the case unfold against a backdrop of local politics, high school scandal, and a grieving family flattened by tragedy.
As leads turn cold and suspects multiply, the detectives race against time to find Rosie’s killer. They soon discover that everyone is a suspect, every suspect has a secret, and every hour counts.
