Director Alexandre Aja's 3D remake of the cult horror film Piranha was a surprise summer 2010 hit and the French horror master best known for the films High Tension, and his remake of The Hills Have Eyes stayed busy writing the horror remake Maniac and prepping the comedy The Gospel According to Jimmy, the action movie The Contractor and the outer space fantasy Cobra - The Space Pirate, based on a popular Japanese manga that was adapted into an animated series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aja added to the pre-production list by boarding HORNS, based on Joe Hill’s horror novel about a 26-year-old who wakes up from a drunken blackout with horns growing from his head and discovering his girlfriend murdered.
Scott Bunin adapted Hill’s novel and Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman of Mandalay Pictures joined as producers.
Aja planned to direct Horns next spring before starting production on Cobra.
"I grew up dreaming about Cobra," Aja said in an earlier interview. "My day was finish school, run home and switch on the TV and I was the hardly the only one. Kids did it in France, Spain, all over Western Europe. For many people there is Star Wars and nothing else, but for me and my writing partner Gregory (Levasseur), there is Star Wars and Cobra."
Aja will co-write Cobra with Gregory Levasseur. They will also co-produce the film with Marc Sessego and Alexandra Milchan.
