Credit the slacking real estate market for the latest party trend at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). When TIFF 2010 officially launches tomorrow and celebrities like Matt Damon start to appear in support of their movies and choice charities like OnexOne, the Canadian foundation that raises money for children around the world, many of the parties will take place as condo sales centers instead of the restaurants and night clubs normally booked by party planners.
According to “The Toronto Star,” condo sales centers have become popular with TIFF 2010 movers-and-shakers because they offer the hosts incredible luxury and at the same time promote high-end real-estate projects that are desparate for buyers. In show-biz lingo, that’s called a win-win.
“Every year, people are looking for the next new thing,” says event planner Charles Khabouth, who is staging a party at the Bisha condo complex adjacent to the festival’s new Bell Lightbox. “This feels homey rather than a party in a bar or club or restaurant. You feel like you’re going to somebody’s residence.”
Imagine: sitting in an expansive living room chatting away with Damon as if he’s your neighbor down the hall. That’s a vision guaranteed to excite festival A-listers.
