The trailer for Magnet's "Monsters" is up and, thanks to very familiar-looking artwork, the film looks look like a "District 9" rip off, but I don't think it is. The film seems to warrant a view and, could very well be most entertaining.
Yes, the aliens are on earth again, but this time more domestic than South Africa. Life forms have spawned thanks to a probe which has crashed on re-entry over Central America. Another common part with "District 9" is the struggle to contain the creatures.
So, what is it? A "Cloverfield" / "War of the Worlds" meets "District 9" perhaps?
Ignore the artwork and see the trailer to judge for yourselves.
Magnolia sends this out to video on demand, iTunes, Xbox Live, Playstation Marketplace, Amazon and Vudu on September 24. After that, the film will find theatres on October 29th.
Garet Edwards directs from his own writing. Pic is produced by Allan Niblo and James Richardson.
PLOT:
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures... Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.
